L is in full blown 2 year old mode. This isn’t bad, actually, it’s quite interesting…Here is what he is up to now:
- He’s learning so many new words/phrases, and repeats them until he gets them perfect. This week it’s been “Goodbye!” and “I love you guys!”
- He understands no. And I have learned that if I say no, and he listens, rewarding him with a hug or “thank you for listening to me when I said no!” helps avoid the tantrum from hearing the word no. We shall see how long it lasts…
- His motor skills are improving, and he is climbing things I didn’t even think could be climbed upon… he got stuck behind his bed the other day, the headboard and the wall. I didn’t even think he would think to climb behind there. When we got his new dressers, since his dresser/changing table combo went to the new baby, we made sure to bolt them to the wall. Thats something he would climb. Does he? Seldom. He tried, but I think it wasn’t as thrilling.
- He dances. Full on dancing, and loves to show me new moves. I have been waiting for this phase, I love baby dancing.
- He sings – almost constantly – and gets lost in his humming. I startled him the other day when he was singing a rousing rendition of his ABC’s by singing along – he got embarrassed.
- He gets embarrassed. We can no longer giggle when he does something cute, for it will hurt his feelings. He thinks we are laughing at him, when we are really just so overwhelmed by cuteness we can’t help but laugh.
- His fears are getting better. No longer afraid of balloons, the mailtime song on blues clues, or seeing people he doesn’t recognize. During Halloween, he had a great time saying “Hi!” to everyone, when last year, he didn’t understand why so many strangers were coming to the door. We are working on puppets, things that randomly move, and this Pocoyo car he got for Christmas last year he is still terrified of…
- When he faces what he is afraid of, he puts his hands over his ears. This comforts him. And he has gotten through situations where he was afraid just by doing that, and it has helped with the meltdowns.
- He hugs my legs now. Since I have been so big a preggo, bending down to pick him up has been seldom, so he has learned to run and give me a big leg hug! I remember doing this to my mom and dad. But when I am kneeling on the floor with him, he takes advantage of it and I get lots of hugs. I can’t wait to be able to get off the floor without help again!
- He counts on his fingers. Then when he gets to 5, he tickles himself. It’s precious.
- Gating him into a room with me is no longer an option most of the time. He must be running back and forth between the family room and his room – most of the time holding mama or daddy’s hand to drag us with him =D
- He gets that the pink room isn’t his, and the toys in there are some other kids. Boy is he in for a surprise!
- He doesn’t want to wear just any hat – it must be the raccoon hat with the ears. He thinks he looks awesome in it. We’ve always had an issue with hats.
- Food is still an issue, but he does get bored with food now and tries a new thing – though it is rare – but it’s a step!
- He’s impressed with older kids, and gravitates toward other toddlers that are quiet and calm like him.
- He likes to hang out in his room alone sometimes. He loves to entertain himself and get lost in his world for a couple hours a day. He gets that from us, both me and his dad appreciate a little introvert time.
I feel like I could go on and on, but he is an entirely different toddler than he was a year ago…I don’t know why this amazes me so much, I mean, duh! But watching him come into his own little personality amazes me everyday… I feel like I don’t write about it enough, but It’s not really natural for me yet to automatically think: I should blog about this! When he does something great. I really should get into the habit though.

My son just turned 2 on 10/23. I’ve been trying to teach him his ABCs and 123s, but he isn’t having it LOL. He tries so hard to make a 2 with his hand and when he finaly gets it, I get all giddy and he stops :/. I think he thinks Sesame Street is more entertaining with teaching than I am
. He seems to say a new word every day, so I try to record that as soon as I hear it..whether it be on Facebook or my personal journal. It’s just so darn cute! He wants to wear his hats, but then pulls them off like two minutes later. This is so confusing to me. Toddlers amaze me. Congratulations on the new addition (when you finally push baby out!)
