I received a free sample of Purex Complete Softener Crystals as a Purex Insider for review and giveaway purposes. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and were in no way influenced by the Dial Corporation. This is my story. Donk Donk. (Lame Law and Order reference)

Me and laundry were nemesis’. When my laundry room flooded a few months ago, and a bunch of clothes that we never wear were on the floor and got ruined, I thought it was a miracle! All I had to do was the laundry that was upstairs and throw away all the unwashed, unworn, unmissed laundry that was on the floor.

Luckily at the same time, I got a new product to try to go along with my new found laundry excitement – Purex Complete Crystals Softener!

Now, I was skeptical at first. Usually when I find a new softener, I get disappointed that not only do I not notice a wonderful smell coming from my towels, I didn’t lay in bed and feel surrounded my freshness either. (Yes, I believe everything should like TV! Don’t you?)

But this product didn’t leave me unsatisfied in bed.  Ahem. Not only did it infuse my laundry with the freshest scent, it helped me out in the laundry room by eliminating a step from the laundry process! I felt like a laundry fairy as I sprinkled these tiny, sparkly crystals in my washer. Even then I could smell the softener start working – and this got me excited. I could actually smell it!

Now I have to tell you an important thing. Beforehand when I opened the package and started sniffing these crystals…I couldn’t stop all night. The flowery, clean scent is heavenly. I almost want to put some in my bathwater, its that luxurious.

When the wash cycle was done and I transferred the wet laundry into the dryer, that fresh scent filled the laundry room. Even before the clothes were dry I could tell that the outcome was going to be awesome. And I was right.

Now, being a mom who doesn’t have time to shower somedays, this is a huge thing for me:

The very next day while I was at a meeting for work, I kept thinking “What’s that smell?”, and “Somebody smells good in this office!” – and you know what? The answer was Me in both cases! I don’t wear perfume to work. It was the outfit I had washed in the Purex Crystals Softener (along with the Purex fabric detergent) and I smelled fabulous!

I immediately went out and bought all the different scents to try: Fresh Spring Waters, Lavender Blossom, and Tropical Splash.

But this is much more than a softener, its a revolutionized way to make your laundry soft and fragrant.

  • It’s 92% natural. That means no oily residue!
  • Importantly, it preserves the flame retardant benefits of your children’s clothes.
  • It retains your athletic wear’s wicking ability which draws sweat away from your body
  • It also maintains your towels’ built-in ability to absorb water
  • Since there is no oily residue, your whites stay white instead of yellowing or turning grey.
  • Won’t harm your clothes and is safe and convenient for the entire family!

Are you intrigued? Wanna smell good too?

When I had my blogging meltdown a few weeks ago, I had to reevaluate why I am doing this. It started out as a way to not feel alone as a stay at home mom. After I learned how to promote my blog, it then became about how many people were following me on my blog. Then on Twitter. Then the giveaways started and it became about promoting those giveaways, and perhaps attracting bigger and better companies. Could I be as great as those other Mommy bloggers who get free appliances and trips to Disney World??

As soon as I sat down and started thinking about the direction this blog is going I immediately thought “I need to slow down and reevalute. Ack. I am becoming a mommy blogger monster!”

This blog was not about giveaways, and promoting company products and gaining a huge number of followers, but it turned into that. When I see all the comments I get on giveaways compared to the ones I get on regular posts — there is a huge difference and I mean a HUGE difference. People I have never even seen comment before on my blog are commenting on the giveaway posts. And you know what? It made me feel kind of dirty.

Am I using my son to gain internet fame, sponsors, and a passive income? Do I really want it to seem that way? No and NO. I didn’t have my son, or start this blog, to make money or get free stuff. I did it to gain insight from other moms like me, who after becoming a new mom became scared out of her wits and needed to connect to other Moms going through the same thing. I was doing those new mommy reviews to help out mothers to be, not to get noticed by the makers of those products. When I get excited about something, like say my Samsung Impression and Relish, I like telling others about it. It was super awesome that Relish contacted me about a giveaway, because I was already going to share my experience with you all. I love that that happened. Relish offered to give me a free month of their service to review and promote them, But I didn’t because I didn’t need to. I was already a subscriber, and if I wasn’t already, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I don’t want to do giveaways just for the sake of doing giveaways. To tell you the truth, I hate promoting giveaways and stressing about promoting them, unless its for something I really truly think is cool.

So what am I saying?

#1. I will only do a giveaway once in a while. This is NOT going to turn into a giveaway blog. ( I have nothing against those who hold monthly or weekly giveaways, I am just saying I don’t have time or the energy for frequent giveaways!!)

#2. I am bringing this blog back to the original idea. I am a new mom, and this is my story. I want to meet you all, and get advice. I want to reach out. I want more community.

#3. This blog isn’t the only thing I do. I am a freelance designer and writer who works at night after her son goes to sleep and I barely get that work done.

#4. I am not going worry about how many people subscribe or follow me. If you do and are actually reading, I am very grateful and I hope that we can get to know each other. I just need to know those faces in the follow bar aren’t just following me so I follow them back and that little number looks bigger. Heck, I am guilty. I follow so many people through google connect that hardly know any of you. I apologize for that.

#5. I want this blogging thing to be fun again, and an account of this great time in my life. I hope you read along, share advice and stories. I enjoy all of your comments.

I have met some really great women through this blog, and I hope I didn’t offend any of you. I am truly blessed that you have came into my life and I felt like I was doing a disservice to those of you who take the time to read and comment on my posts – as I was feeling too overwhelmed to regularly read and comment on yours. I promise will do better, and know that you are all in my thoughts every single day. Thanks for reading.

Yay! I finally have a layout I like! This is the first time in almost a year I have actually liked a design, and put it into public view. You see, I have been a graphic designer for the last 6 years so I am always designing something or other for myself – but when you are a designer your hardest critic is yourself. Designing anything for your hardest critic can be darn near impossible!

I like this though, and I will probably stick with it for a few months…until my mood changes from purple to something else…my tastes seem to change frequently.
Since I am finally up and running, I thought I would do a post about my plans for this blog. So far this blog has been a way for me to keep up with friends and family about my pregnancy and then baby L. But, I am more than a new mommy blogger. I am a designer (as mentioned above), a writer, and a tech and gaming enthusiast – So I will be blogging about those things as well. I love to share what I am interested in at the time with others, and get their input, so hopefully this will help with the isolation factor that being a new mommy sometimes brings.
Speaking of isolation, don’t you just love that a new baby doesn’t seem to change the daddy’s life as much as it does mommy’s? Though, my husband is dealing quite well with being a new daddy and loves his son – I can’t help but feel like he still has his freedom, and I don’t. Which in turn, makes me feel resentful towards him (not the baby!!!). He gets to work, get up and go see friends, run to the store – anything – on the drop of a hat. I, however, have to either bring baby along, or make sure he is fed before I leave and make sure I am back at least 2 hours later. He can stay out as long as he wants. Plus, he hasn’t spent the last year pregnant and not feeling like himself, and I am still trying to get back to normal. When I was pregnant I didn’t have the energy to leave the house, now that I do – I can’t.
Hey, that’s the first time I have really bitched on this blog. Feels pretty good, but I won’t make it a habit. =)
Anyway -
I plan on writing a series of reviews on the baby gear that I got from my shower that is now in use with baby ‘L’! When I was researching everything, I could never find a new mom’s opinion on strollers, or if that pump really works the way it’s supposed to, etc. I did have mommy friends that helped me make decisions on which baby monitors to buy and such – and it helped a lot, so I am going to do new mommies like me a favor and write honest reviews on everything I am using now everyday with baby L! So look forward to those. First up – Co-sleepers!
I also have some leads on some great stuff to giveaway! So watch for that also!
