Being a SAHM is very rewarding. I love that I can play with my kids, be here for every milestone, teach them things and the relationship I have developed with L is priceless. I’m excited to be at this point Maddie in the future…but finances will call for me to go back to work at some point and I have been thinking about this a ton lately.
From 2010 to mid 2011 I worked from home for a local hosting company. When I got pregnant with Maddie, 4 months in I quit (for reasons that would just outrage the readers of this blog and I don’t want to start a war between me and said company) and started freelancing full time again. Since then I launched two blog designs (Family and Life in Las Vegas, Saving with Amy) and one photography site (Cindy Mandernach Photography) that I am very proud of, and my passion of independent work was rekindled. Right now I am taking a break, a maternity leave if you will, and reflecting back on that time,I realize what I have to do…
I have to work for myself. I want the best of both worlds – I want to be here for my kids and be fulfilled professionally. Can I do it? Do you do it?
The only thing I am having doubts about is the timing – how will get work done with two under 5? Nap time? My husband does work from home for a company, but contrary to belief he has to be pretty focused throughout the day so even though it’s great that I can ask him for help throughout the day so he can take a break here and there, we try to act like he is “at work”. I suppose we could work out a schedule so I can have some time to be in the zone and get work done – Nap times and some time at night (If I can get my husband to stop working at night, he’s kind of a workaholic!)
He is very supportive of me going balls out on this too. He sees how much I love working with my clients and how happy it makes me…
So I am thinking about really launching things at the end of February/March. Time to get serious about things! This is my big project for the year, among other things. I have to have projects. =D
